"Baby Boo" ... Private Collection, Jill Annette McGahey
--from original acrylic on stretched canvas, 16” x 16” x 1.5”
Baby Boo was a little guy used for breeding for 9.5 years and spent most of his life in a cage. He was very shy, tiny and had many health issues.  Then along came a very special lady who opened her heart and home to him.  Over his 4.5 years out of captivity, he loved running and barking in the back yard, scampering with joy or performing his own back rub wiggling his little feet in the air. Baby Boo’s precious little sad-eyed face and joyful personality brought his owner, Jill McGahey into Chin rescue, now working with the Japanese Chin Care and Rescue Effort (JCCARE).

The Artist:  Martha Hooks, a Southerner by birth and choice, has always had dogs in her life.  Her memories of going to field trials with her dad as well as time spent in conformation rings with her Long Coat Chihuahuas helped expand her knowledge of canine anatomy, breed traits and personalities.  She paints full time and commissions are accepted, time permitting.  Of course, her favorite subjects wear fur coats year around.
