"Boogie" ... Boogie, Pekingese
--from original Acrylic on Stretched Canvas, 18” x 24”
Mother Nature and Father Time were checking to see how the fall decorations were coming along. She had donated a glorious fall palette and Father Time was keeping her company. Suddenly, a happy sight caught their attention. Boogie, a Pekingese, was happily rolling around in a riot of leaves, becoming one with his yard!
“Look, he matches my leaves and acts like a puppy,” Mother Nature exclaimed.
“Boogie is 17 years old, has a happy family and a Zen attitude! So, this is normal for him,” said Father Time.
The Pekingese, a small compact dog of Chinese origin, is the “lion” of the AKC Toy Group. Owned by royalty in ancient China, featured in Chinese art since the 8th century, they came to Europe in 1860 as a result of war. Pekingese are intelligent, opinionated and affectionate.
The Artist: Martha Hooks, a Southerner by birth and choice, has always had dogs in her life. Her memories of going to field trials with her dad as well as time spent in conformation rings with her Long Coat Chihuahuas helped expand her knowledge of canine anatomy, breed traits and personalities. She paints full time and commissions are accepted, time permitting. Of course, her favorite subjects wear fur coats year around.
