"Arms of an Angel I" ... Meiko Kalani, Japanese Chin [see companion piece "Arms of an Angel II"]
--from original 20” x 16” Acrylic on Canvas Panel
Through no fault of her own, eight-month old Meiko found herself in the arms of a JCCARE Angel. Her heart-broken owner was forced to give up this dearly loved puppy due to her own severe allergy issues. While in foster care, two young neighboring sisters came for a visit. They played with adorable Meiko until she fell asleep in Trisha’s arms and luckily, her sister, Claire snapped the photo which provided inspiration for two paintings. Happily, Meiko found her forever home and the JCCARE Angels transported her from Illinois to the state of Washington.
The Artist: Martha Hooks, a Southerner by birth and choice, has always had dogs in her life. Her memories of going to field trials with her dad as well as time spent in conformation rings with her Long Coat Chihuahuas helped expand her knowledge of canine anatomy, breed traits and personalities. She paints full time and commissions are accepted, time permitting. Of course, her favorite subjects wear fur coats year around.
