"The Play Bow I" ... Kimiko Tamae Flaming Heart, Japanese Chin [see the companion piece "The Play Bow II"]
--from original 15” x 30” Acrylic on Canvas Panel
Tamae of Mystike Chin is speaking a universal canine body language used and understood by dogs all around the world. Plain and simple, the “play bow” is an invitation to play. Who could turn down an invitation to play with this darling little girl? Certainly not the handsome male Chin, Maru, in the companion painting, “The Play Bow II.” Tamae lives with her owner, Don Omar Gonzalez, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
These paintings blend antique Oriental styling with the thoroughly modern Tamae and Maru. The Japanese Chin itself is like a piece of rare Oriental art. It is a centuries-old breed and a member of AKC's Toy Group. This delightful and entertaining little dog exhibits cat-like behaviors. Its one purpose is to serve man as a companion dog, and the Japanese Chin does this to perfection.
The Artist: Martha Hooks, a Southerner by birth and choice, has always had dogs in her life. Her memories of going to field trials with her dad as well as time spent in conformation rings with her Long Coat Chihuahuas helped expand her knowledge of canine anatomy, breed traits and personalities. She paints full time and commissions are accepted, time permitting. Of course, her favorite subjects wear fur coats year around.
