In 2001 when I was adopted through JCCARE by Nancy & Rick Derrig, I did not know that I was being prepared for the role of "Queen of the Chin" in my new home. My parents are volunteers with JCCARE, so there was never a shortage of foster Chin subjects in my kingdom. My responsibility was to make the “visiting” foster members of our family feel right at home; because, at one time, I had that “lost feeling” and I did not want any of our Chin visitors to feel that way. My 12 years with my human family prepared me well for my next assignment. I had to leave my family when I was called to the Rainbow’s Bridge. I was needed, you see, to be the assistant to St. Francis of Assisi to help with all the other little Chin as they arrived and waited to cross the Rainbow Bridge into Heaven. Thanks, Mom and Dad, for teaching me hope, tenderness, patience, kindness, sharing and, most of all, love! One day we will meet again, until then we have many wonderful memories.
The Artist: Martha Hooks, a Southerner by birth and choice, has always had dogs in her life. Her memories of going to field trials with her dad as well as time spent in conformation rings with her Long Coat Chihuahuas helped expand her knowledge of canine anatomy, breed traits and personalities. She paints full time and commissions are accepted, time permitting. Of course, her favorite subjects wear fur coats year around.
